Hey all,

Just reaching out to the community for their input. Would you guys prefer two separate divisions (ladders) that are split between High Skill and Low Skill or would you prefer CG's classic rules? The classic rules are:

Quote:
You can only challenge teams 50% above/below your current rank.

If you win a defending match you are protected for 2 days (no one will be able to challenge you).
If you win a challenging match you are protected for 12h (no one will be able to challenge you).
If you lose a defending match you are vulnerable for 12h (you will be unable to challenge).
If you lose a challenging match you are vulnerable for 2 days (you will be unable to challenge).
You cannot play the same team twice in a row.
Time given to accept a match: 2 days
Team members required to challenge: 5
Players are allowed to be in 1 team at a time

This is a NORMAL ladder, protected/vulnerable times are halved normal ladders.

Or do you have something else to suggest?

What I think Birna was suggesting is that we have a Division 1, and an Open Ladder. Taking the rankings from our current ladder as an example, we would have a Division 1 with:

  • Event Horizon
  • Lemon Squeezy
  • Trident
  • Gentlemen in Underwear
  • Royal
  • Fallen

Division 1 is done in a round robin format, no team can join mid-season, map vetos are done with the esl map pool minus favela plus another map, and finals are done as a double elim with the top 4.

The Open Ladder has the teams not in Division 1, however the teams from Division 1 can join this ladder and still play, if they want. This ladder will use the classic Cybergamer ruleset and the finals will be a double elimination with the top 4 teams not in Division 1.

Two divisions creates a balance.

Teams to enter Div 1 should be earned.

Qualifiers for a Professional group (Div 1) would be played out over a number of weeks.

Three week round Qualifier, a bracket is played out and the top 2 teams for each week Qualify for Div 1.

Once a team is Qualified they cannot play another round for example, team 1 cannot play week 2 or week 3 after placing 1st or 2nd in week one.

The teams who are unable to Qualify are put down to Div 2 and the season starts.

At the end of the season that's where Final rounds come in, both Divisions can have separate Finals.

Finals shouldn't be played out on a open ladder, the ladder doesn't show who the best teams accurately.

A open ladder should only be played for scrims, nothing serious.

Group A : Consists of the top 6 teams in the game - Bracket is based on past seasons and community consensus - Round robin format- no team can join mid-season - map vetos are done with the esl map pool - Finals are top 4 - Teams 5/6 go into a play off with top 2 teams from Group B to determine if relegation is needed. This forces consistently more games per week with the countries top teams and allows possible stream and prize pool potential in future seasons.

Group B : Open ladder with CLASSIC CG rules applied - Teams fight for top 2 positions to be eligible to contend for a spot in Group A at the end of season - Group B allows a healthy, fair, relaxed and fun environment for less experienced teams to build and grow at their own pace against like minded teams. They are encouraged to play more and learn without the demoralising reality of facing off against hardcore players.

I think this is what the community wants. It is at no cost to CG nor does it go against any rules. i believe with this format a somewhat stale ladder will come alive

ELO sucks for low skill teams. We don't care about getting beaten every match by better teams, but when our ELO drops so low that we can't challenge anyone, that's a problem.

Bring back Classic CG Rules for Div B, let the top teams compete in a Round Robin in Div A so that Div B teams have something to aim for and something for Div A teams to fight to retain.
